Here's a story about one of my first experiences as an ambulatory wheelchair user (April 2023) "I was "feeling my oats," so to speak, yesterday when I decided that I needed to post a photo of my chair. There is a large disc golf course nearby which, as it turns out, has quite a nice walking path. Sooo off we go! Three-quarters up a nice little slope, I found THE spot to stop and grab a couple of photos. Brakes on, I exit the chair and grab a couple of photos. I settle back into the chair to continue my journey, release the brakes, and quickly drop a wheel off the edge of the pathway...launching me backward...ass over teacup. (there may have been an expletive or two involved at this juncture) ...Several young men appeared as I lay there taking inventory, and helped this doddering old fool to stand, fetched my cane for me from my bag, and assisted me to a bench where I could clean my scrapes and pluck cactus spines (luckily none in me) out of a section of my wheelchair tire. I DID manage to finish navigating the rest of the path around the course and make it home without any further loss of skin or blood! HUZZAH!! Ah! Adventure!"
